UPDATE 03/27: Miami-Dade now closed through April 17th COVID-19 Advisory #12: Administrative Order 20-04 Extends Postponement of Non-Mission Critical Court Proceedings Through April 17th, and Suspension of Time Limits and Deadlines Through April 20th COVID-19 ADVISORY #12 ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER 20-04 EXTENDS POSTPONEMENT OF NON-MISSION CRITICAL COURT PROCEEDINGS THROUGH APRIL 17TH, AND SUSPENSION OF TIME LIMITS AND DEADLINES THROUGH APRIL 20TH The Honorable Bertila Soto, Chief Judge of the Miami-Dade Courts, has issued Administrative Order (AO) 20-04, extending the postponement established in AO 20-03 of all non-emergency court proceedings, except emergency and mission-critical court matters, through Friday, April 17, 2020. However, non-emergency court proceedings will commence once a remote appearance technology platform is implemented, which will allow court proceedings to take place without in-person appearance. Emergency and mission critical court matters are defined in AO 20-04, attached. All filings related to emergency and mission critical court matters will be accepted by the Clerk of Courts. Also pursuant to AO 20-04, all time limits and deadlines set by judicial order and/or authorized by rule and statute applicable to: civil (including circuit and county), family, domestic violence, dependency, probate, small claims, traffic, bond forfeiture, and appellate proceedings are further suspended until the close of business day on Monday, April 20, 2020. For clarification, the suspension of time limits and deadlines began on the close of business day Friday, March 13, 2020 and is now extended through the close of business day Monday, April 20, 2020. Any deadlines falling within the time period listed above shall be extended 38 days* from the original deadline (*the sum total of days extended in AOs 20-03 and 20-04). These temporary emergency procedures are established to minimize the need for persons to appear in court, in order to reduce the transmission of coronavirus disease COVID-19. The time period for these emergency procedures may be further extended based on guidance from public health and government authorities and in coordination with the Florida Supreme Court. Future updates will be provided as needed. All court employees who have the capability to work remotely from home will do so in coordination with their supervisors. Pursuant to prior AOs and this AO 20-04, all court facilities remain closed to the public except for those individuals attending emergency or mission-critical court matters through Friday, April 17, 2020.
