Criminal Background Checks

Criminal background checks may be selected when posting a hearing. The search goes back a minimum of 10 years unless prohibited by law.

If desired, you may choose it as mandatory by contacting us to enable that feature.

You will see a $3 fee added to the hearing for the check if you are requiring annual verification.

In the case of bundles and super bundles (cross-client bundling), the $3 fee is spread out over the number of hearings.

How the fee is established? What we do is pool all the costs.

A simple Nationwide Criminal Database scan costs more than the fee we are charging you per hearing.  You have to run those per alias.  And attorneys seem to love aliases.  Not just married names but going by middle initials or nicknames, etc.  Each name variant is another search.  So all married women with name changes are instantly at least 2 scans.

When we find a match, we then physically send a court records retrieval specialist to the county court to pull the records.  These often are not the types of crimes that disqualify attorneys from your creditor's requirements, but we do the due diligence anyway.

All that being said, the cost of some attorneys is upwards of $100 to scan them completely.  While most get by at a lower charge,  we didn't want to charge you $65 for a hearing and then tack on $100 in extra background check fees.

What we did instead was model the costs so that we spread them out in a consistent per appearance fee that was tolerable.  We cover our pool of costs that way and make up the difference as a cost of doing business when we hit more troubled attorneys than usual.  These played well to firms because their pricing was more predictable.

Now, when you run an audit on our site for your hearings, you have access to the attorneys' compliance documents, including the national criminal background check.
